Brandon Walker developed the concept for Takovr Project after losing his older brother Ryan to Good Pastures, which is a rare disease that destroys your kidneys. During the days that followed Ryan’s death, Brandon realized that Ryan ( a low income artist from Denver) could not afford life insurance because the rates for someone waiting for a transplant were simply unrealistic. Ryan had to spend several hours each week sitting in a dialysis chair, and worked a full time job, yet still could not attain the funds for his insurance. Ryan’s family was lucky enough to raise money to assist with his memorial. This is when Brandon realized that many families out there would not be fortunate enough to receive this support.
After doing some research Brandon found that there is very little assistance out there for families in this position, and in many cases the family members remains are cremated without a viewing, and placed into a common grave with other unclaimed ashes. That’s when Brandon decided to put his foot down, and worked towards developing Takovr Project, which is named after his late brother Ryan’s art signiture. Now, Takovr Project is aiming to raise funds to assist these families, both with funeral assistance plans, as well as grief counseling.
